Summer brings to mind seashores, sunshine, swimming, and seafood. Close to the water, seafood restaurants in San Mateo offer fresh selections that are light and refreshing for a hot, summer day.
Here are three to try:
- Kingfish, located at 201 S. B St., is open daily, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. This restaurant has an oyster bar, three fully-stocked bars, two wine cellars, a Speakeasy lounge, and a private dining room. Try the ale-braised mussels, crispy-skin salmon, slow-braised short ribs, fish tacos, or lobster ravioli.
- The Fish Market is located at 1855 S. Norfolk. This spot is open for lunch Mondays through Sundays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and for dinner Sundays through Thursdays, 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., as well as Fridays and Saturdays, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. The menu changes frequently due to seasonal changes, availability and what the fishermen catch (which guarantees freshness). Options include oysters, sashimi, smoked fish, steamed shellfish, and mesquite grilled fish.
- Pacific Catch, located at 243 S B St., is open daily. Hours are as follows: Sundays through Thursdays, 11 a.m.-10 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Try Hawaiian poke or the island tacos with black beans or a Pan-Asian rice bowl at this Bay Area favorite.
