On June 21 and 22, residents can spend hours browsing through seven city blocks of booths, exhibits, vendors, local artisans, musicians, food, and plenty of other family-friendly attractions and activities at this one-of-a-kind, local festival. Well over 15,000 people were in attendance for last year’s Summer Fest, and the organizers are expecting even more this year.

SummerFest will also feature hands-on activities like cooking demonstrations, fun things for kids to do, arts and crafts with inspiring ideas for DIY home decorating, plenty of food vendors for day-long energy, and lots more. San Mateo’s “block party” will last 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both days and will take place at B Street, between Tilton and Sixth Avenue in Downtown San Mateo (rain or shine).

For new residents in the area, this is the perfect opportunity to meet the neighbors and get acquainted with the community. For those traveling from the greater Bay Area, this is also a prime time to cross the San Mateo Bridge and see what this central location and historic downtown destination offers for work and play.

3 Ways to Recycle or Reuse Old Yoga Mats

April 8th, 2014

888 San Mateo’s onsite yoga studio provides a convenient way to unwind after a long day, but after countless sun salutations, worn-out yoga mats are inevitable. Instead of tossing them, consider recycling in San Mateo and reusing them in creative ways.

Yoga mats can also be reusable for other functions. Snip an old yoga mat down to size, and place it under a rug at home for an eco-friendly, skid-proof surface to keep the rug in place. From mouse pads to shelf lining, yoga mats can be recast into different roles for your apartment.

If a yoga mat is gently used and still in good shape, consider donating it to a nearby organization that needs yoga mats, such as a school or youth organization. Check with local animal shelters to see if they need them as padding for the inside of dog crates and carriers.

Sustainability is at the foundation of 888 San Mateo’s green living since our apartment community was built with recycled materials. To learn more about 888 San Mateo’s convenient and eco-friendly amenities, call 855-805-6160 and learn about availability at San Mateo’s newest green apartment community.
