5 Ways to Make Your San Mateo Living Room Feel Complete

March 10th, 2015

At some point we become fed up with nondescript, boring rooms and want something more to come home to. Some people change this over time, adding bits and pieces from trips and special moments to their home decor while others embark on a frenzy of buying, renovating and redoing all in one weekend.

Whatever your style, here are some apartment decorating tips that may come in handy.

  • Jazz up those bare walls and bring some warmth into the various rooms in your apartment with a few well placed pieces of art. Photos in interesting frames, flea market finds or a favorite reproduction print all work well.
  • Don’t just stick with the lighting that comes with your apartment. Add interest and variety to your apartment decor with additional floor, ceiling or table lamps.
  • Specialized window treatments in apartments create additional privacy and reduce sunlight and nighttime glare as well as add interest with colorful patterns and textures.
  • Create texture and interest in a room with a potted plant, nubby throw, or fluffy pillows.

These apartment decorating tips are just one way our San Mateo apartments caters to our residents. Contact us today to learn more about our luxurious community.

How to Amp Up the View From Your Oversized Windows in San Mateo

February 26th, 2015

The oversized windows in our San Mateo apartments provide you with spectacular views, and there are a few apartment decorating tips you can use to make sure you’re maximizing that view instead of hiding it.

One great way to emphasize the view from your apartment is by using solar shades or sheer shades. Either one will give you a glimpse of the view even when you have your window covers pulled.

If you’d rather not change the window covers, you can always leave your existing ones open as much as possible so you can enjoy the view throughout the day.

For a more artful way to amp up the view you’ve got through the oversized windows in your apartment, choose a simplistic design with your interior decor.

When you use a minimalist approach to your decorating, you won’t take away from the view with the furnishings and other decor inside your apartment.

  • With hands flat on the mat, slowly go into plow pose reaching your toes over your head and then back to perpendicular with feet flexed.
  • Lying face up, place your toes on the ball, hands flat on the floor. Roll the ball away from you as you lift your hips an inch off the floor and then return.
  • Sit up with arms straight out in front. Engage core muscles with a straight back and slowly lower to a 45 degree angle while bringing your arms into your chest with closed fists. Return to starting position.

Get Your Container Garden Questions Answered in San Mateo

February 10th, 2015

We have fairly temperate weather in the San Mateo area, so it’s easy to keep plants in containers outside all year around. But container plants are very susceptible to pests and disease even during the dormant winter months.

Among the many events in San Mateo coming up, Master Gardner Clinic on March 1 is where you can get all your questions answered by certified University of California Cooperative Extension volunteers.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., these master gardeners will be available at the Kohl Pump House in San Mateo Central Park to answer questions on all kinds of gardening topics.

Whether you’ve always wanted to start a container garden or have a full fledged jungle on your patio, you will benefit from the wise counsel of these knowledgeable volunteers.

If you’re having a problem with one or more of your container plants, bring in a sample of the plant, soil, or pest in a plastic bag and one of the master gardeners will identify the problem and suggest solutions. Not many events in San Mateo can boast this kind of service!
