One of the best ways to go green in San Mateo is to start by cleaning up the plate and being careful what’s put upon it. An easy way to do that? Why, start shopping at the area’s fine farmers’ markets.

Each are stocked with delicacies and treats grown right here in the area to savor and enjoy. This summer, shop farmers markets like:

• Downtown San Mateo Urban Farmers’ Market: Open Mondays from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., this market takes place at the Caltrain Station at 385 1st Ave.
• San Mateo Farmers’ Market: Open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., this market sets up its stands at the College of San Mateo. Here, shoppers will find plenty of fruits, veggies and homemade creations to satiate any appetite.
• 25th Avenue Farmers’ Market: From 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. every Tuesday, this market sets up its stalls at 25th and Hacienda St. Shoppers will find a healthy selection of fruits, veggies and great conversation every time they show up here.
